The Hasselblad 500 series is a very successful line of single-lens reflex medium format cameras made by the Hasselbald Corporation of Sweden, using German-made Carl Zeiss lenses with built-in leaf shutters. Born in 1957, the Hasselblad was one of the first system cameras. Although the 500 series uses leaf shutters in the lens, there was also a line of Hasselblads that used a focal plane shutter in the body, instead of a leaf shutter in the lens. The Hasselblad lens and film back mounting systems are excellent. Because it has a leaf shutter instead of the massive, earth shattering focal plane curtain of the Pentax 67 or Kiev 66, the Hasselblad (and Mamiya RB67) is particularly suited towards taking studio photographs. Up until last year, Hasselblad strongly promoted the "square format" (56mm x 56mm; or 6x6). With used Hasselblad 500C/M prices hovering at about $1000 for a full kit, I'd recommend buying a Hasselblad instead, but it's your money. Along with the PME-45 (the same meter but in a 45° prism), these are the best metering options for the Hasselblad 500 series. The primary use of the Hasselblad is commercial and portrait photography. The moon camera used by Neil Armstrong was a Hasselblad 500EL/70 (special model 500 with a motor drive and a 70 mm film back). Produced from 1970-1989, the Hasselblad 500 C/M consists of a body, lens, removable film magazine and interchangable viewfinders. with the leaf shutter in hasselblad lenses you can theoretically shoot any shutter speed and the flash will sync but i always shoot between 1/60 and 1/125. The Hasselblad brand has become the Rolls Royce in cameras. The Hasselblad 500C was one of the first system cameras. With the 500 series Hasselblad also demonstrated that a camera can be beautiful. No other design of camera, including later Hasselblads, has achieved such a classic look with its exquisitely composed straights and curves and the elegant counterbalance of dark textured surfaces with bright shining edges. Launched by Hasselblad in 1957, the new 500C had lenses with a central leaf shutter.

The square 6x6 format (56mm x 56mm) on medium format film makes the most of the image circle from smaller lens, means that you do not have to turn the camera sideways for portrait photographs, and allows for cropping flexibility later on. Hasselblad today has the most wide spread camera system in the world within the medium format, the so-called V system. These cameras have been the medium format work horses for professional photographers for a fair few decades. )One of the more wonderful features of this camera is the focusing screen. It is a medium format single-lens reflex camera, using German-made Carl Zeiss lenses with built-in leaf shutters. With the 500 series Hasselblad also demonstrated that a camera can be beautiful.
Film
The Hasselblad lens and film back mounting systems are excellent. This means you can set down a Hassie lens or put a film back in your backpack without having to worry about something catching or getting damaged. The film insert has a sticker on it with the last 3 digits of the shell's serial number. The Hasselblad 6 x 6 cm (2 1/4 x 2 1/4 in) square format used size 120 film and the square format eliminated the need to turn the camera sideways for landscape or portrait. A unique system consists of a body, lens removable film magazine and interchangable viewfinders. The use of interchangable film backs allow a photographer to change film types in mid roll. Using a standard film back, 12 shots could be taken on a standard 120 roll of film, or 16 shots by fitting a 6×4.
